I am Harlina, impromptu stand-in for our regular presenter CC/CL Astuty.
On Monday 23rd June 2008, the regular meeting of Jakarta Toastmasters Club(JTC) was opened at 7 PM by Acting President and VP Education (VPE) , CC/CL Alistair. Then followed a recess of 15 minutes. After resuming themeeting and greeting the audience, our VPE inducted 3 new members at once!! Welcome to our lovely JTC, TM Taufan, TM Yeni and TM Wahyu... Lookingforward to your icebreakers next week !There were 18 attendees, consisting of 12 members, 2 visitingToastmasters, and 4 guests. After the opening of the meeting, CC/CL Alistair gave the control to theToastmaster of the Meeting (TOM), ACB Jhonson."Take Time " was the theme of the meeting.Our TOM provided many tips throughout the meeting about how to taketime... He said among others:" take time to play because it will make you younger"... Then, the TOM introduced the General Evaluator (GE), ATMB/CL Etta whodescribed her duty. Her team members explained their roles: TM Ivan asGrammarian who elaborated on “ to procrastinate” as Word of the Day,ACB/CL Wivina as impromptu Timer, TM Dyah as Ah/Word of the Day Counter,and ATM Robert as impromptu Ballot Counter. After the GE returned the control to TOM, ACB/ALB Johan took the stand tolead the Table Topics Session. Our listening and fast thinking skillswere really challenged. Here is a review on the table topics speakers:- ATM Robert likes to do everything EXCEPT what he HAS TO do...
- TM Taufan as Governor of DKI Jakarta would give us free entrance toPRJ-Kemayoran exhibition but would charge a premium price on the drinks...
- ATM/ CL Etta gave a taste of midnight sales and pillow shopping
- TM Wahyu said that soccer makes you sleepy but happy
- Guest Aan likes to watch soccer even though he plays basketball...
- CC/CL Alistair said that 2 know more than 1 especially when it comes tosources for TV-news about the American Presidential elections.
The Prepared Speech Session, featured only 1 prepared speaker : YoursTruly who delivered BM # 8 , with objective :get comfortable with visualaids...The speech was entitled " The Big "O"...No, it is not about , youknow... but about how we can learn from talk show Queen Oprah Winfrey whodeveloped from an unknown actress in 1985 in the film " the color purple"into the producer of its musical version, 20 years later...
In the General Evaluation Session, the GE and her team gave theirsreports. CC/C Alistair as individual evaluator, gave postive feedback onthe one and only prepared speech.
Then break ... break... break... for Waltzing Jhonson. Yours Truly was hisside-kick and DJ... and almost the whole JTC audience danced to the musicof 2 songs, while ATM Robert made his camera rolling...
Then TM Ivan gave his clear report as grammarian while TM Dyah diligentlyreported all the pausefillers and word of the day... Finally ATMB/CL Ettawrapped up the session with her own report in a motivating way.
Hall of Fame Session, time for Ballot Counter ATM to announce ourfavourites for the night : ATMB/CL Etta for Table Topics, Yours Trulyfor Prepared speech , and CC/CL Alistair for Individual Evaluation.
