Minutes of JTC Meeting, 1 September 2008

Hi again!

Our last meeting on the 1st of September was the first meeting in Ramadhan month. As in previous years, during Ramadhan, the dinner starts at 18:00 and the meeting starts at 18:30. Despite of the traffic jam, we had 26 people coming to our meeting, including 8 guests and 2 visiting Toastmasters.
The theme of the meeting was “the Courage to Conquer”, which is also the theme of our District this year. It was chosen by our Toastmaster of the Meeting, ACB/ALB Johan, who is also our current Area Governor. He explained that we should have the courage to achieve our goals, which means willing to put effort to gain something.
Our General Evaluator was CC Vanessa, who added another “C” to our theme to represent “Creativity”, because there were a lot of impromptu roles and improvised sessions. She was helped by her team which consisted of TM Matthew as Grammarian, ACB Jhonson as Timer, CC Alistair as Ballot Counter, and TM Ivan as Ah and WOD Counter. I don’t know whether it’s the weather or the food, but all members of the GE Team spent quite much time to explain their roles.
The Table Topic Session was put off until later. Instead, we listened to an “impromptu” speech, as a part of our Prepared Speech Session, by CTM/CL Imung. She was to deliver a speech, which topic was chosen by the audience. As prompted by everyone in the room, she gave speech about body language. She was evaluated by ATM Robert.
After the speech, we enjoyed an educational session by TM Siska. She presented a movie titled “Fish!”. It is a movie about how to put passion and positive mental attitude in workplace, using an example of a catchy concept used by a fish outlet in Seattle, US. Everybody enjoyed the session so much, that until the end of the meeting, the main ideas of “Fish!” were still mentioned.
The Table Topic Session was a little different from usual, because everyone had to speak. I mean it, everyone. The Table Topic Master was CTM/CL Imung, who asked everyone to gather around and formed a circle. She then created a short, unfinished story, and asked the person next to her to finish the story. After that, everyone took turn to continue the story. The story started from a challenge of race between a deer and a turtle, and later on involved five Ninja Turtles, Aladdin, and Tarzan.
The Evaluation Session was not typical either, because in between, we had ATMB/CL Etta conducting Brainstorming Session, which goal was to gather ideas on how to improve our club. The meeting was closed by our President, CC Alistair, who also reminded everyone the deadline for our semi-annual dues.
It was an interesting meeting, with all spontaneous session and ideas, and we are all looking forward to the next meeting. See you next week!
