JTC Minutes of Meeting 20 November 2006
Attendees: 12 consisting of 9 JTC members, 2 guests and 1 visiting Toastmasters (Kebayoran)
Theme of the meeting: RESPECT YOUR GUEST
Word of the Day: Conquer
The meeting was opened by President Harry Nizam who asked our guests to introduce themselves and briefly comment on how they knew about Toastmasters. Then, Pres. Harry passed the control over to the TOM of the evening – TM Thomas Alfiandes.
TOM Thomas briefly explained to the audience the theme he chose for the meeting. It was in accordance to President George Bush’s visit to Bogor , which happened to be on the same day and time we were having our JTC meeting. There were so many pros and cons regarding Mr. Bush’s visit but a guest is a guest and we should respect that. Besides, if Mr. Bush came to be a guest at JTC, we would respect him like we do with our other guests, right?
Thomas continued the meeting and introduced the WivGeneral Evaluator – CTM ina, our visiting Toastmaster from Kebayoran Club. As GE, Vina evaluated everything and anything that went on during the meeting. Of course she had the help from her evaluation team that consisted of Grammarian – TM Eva, Timer – TM Edwin, Ah/WOD Counter – CTM/CL Harry and a Ballot Counter – TM Astuty.
The first session of the meeting started and Thomas introduced the Table Topics Master – TM Astuty. She conquered the audience and asked them questions regarding power:
CTM Vina shared how she rehearses her speech by rehearsing the opening several times until she’s really confident then, the rest will just flow. She also likes to practice her speeches in the car.
TM Thomas explained what he thought was unlimited power.
Guest Kunto was asked what type of President he would like to be and he said he wanted to be the President of USA.
Guest Aksa agrees with the saying that in order to conquer our fear, we have to face it.
After the Table Topics session, the meeting continued to the Prepared Speech session where we heard the speeches from the following:
1. TM Tassya – BM#6 (Vocal Variety) Title: “Rock Show – Live”
Shared with us her experience watching a Linkin Park concert and even sang verses from the band’s songs.
2. TM Naufal – BM#8 (Get Comfortable with Visual Aids) Title: “Investment Opportunity ”
Naufal talked about investment opportunities in Indonesia ’s oil and gas industry. Even though the laptop wasn’t there to help him do his presentation, Naufal still did an excellent job.
Following the Prepared Speech session, CTM Vina took over again to lead the Evaluation session. The individual evaluators were spot on with their evaluations:
- DTM Harlina evaluated TM Tassya
- ATM Robert evaluated TM Naufal
Then, Vina’s evaluation team gave their respective reports and after her own report, Vina returned the control to TOM Thomas.
We still had ample time before closing the meeting so Thomas asked the audience if anyone would like to share some jokes or other activities. It turned out we had a lot of joke masters in the crowd and the topic of most of the jokes – you guessed it – President Bush.
The meeting adjourned after the announcement of the favourites in the
Hall of Fame:
