"THE SPIRIT OF GIVING" - 12 November 2012
“THE SPIRIT OF GIVING” filled the air of PB Taxand Auditorium last
night as JTC ran its regular meeting!
The Club President
of JTC, ACB/CL Imung Hikmah started up the meeting by giving out “generous” (word of the day)
information about Toastmasters in general for the benefit of the guests. The
President then gave the whole control to the Toastmaster of the Meeting (ToM), TM Sai Blackbryn, to lead the meeting. ToM was working hand in hand with the generous
GE Team: CC Valeriya Alimzhanova as
the General Evaluator; TM Arief Rasyad (from Sandoz
Toastmasters Club) as the Grammarian;
TM Ratnasari as the Timer; TM Dina Novita as the Ballot
Counter; and TM Dwiardi Vergiawan
as the “Ah” and WoD Counter. We
noticed that TM Dina and TM Vergi wasted no time to continue giving their
spirit to our club by taking roles after delivering their very ice-breaker
speeches last week!

The audience were soon
spoiled with the variety types of speeches from BM #1 until BM #8 as the
meeting moved to the prepared speech session. The stage was firstly given to
the ice-breaker for the night, TM Intan
Oktora who delivered her speech entitled “Keep Calm and Dress Up”.
Through her speech, TM Intan let us know that she is the kind
of person who is very committed to keep improving herself, although it may mean
saying good-bye to her old habits/life style, in order to pursue her dreams and
aspirations. TM Intan was evaluated
by DTM Soh Swee Kiat, a visiting Toastmaster who generously
paid his visit to JTC before flying back to his home, Singapore. DTM Soh felt that TM Intan did not only break the ice
but also melted it! He suggested TM Intan to give more information about her background,
interests, etc in the next speeches.
Next prepared speaker was TM Nurdrajat (TM Aday), who presented
his 2nd project entitled “Beep Beep”. With a fancy opening,
he showed the audience the photo of a cartoon character named “Road Runner” and
then talked on all-you-need-to-know-about-running. Aligned with his sporty
attire, TM Aday told the audience about the how beneficial running is to our
physical and psychological needs. TM Aday was evaluated by TM Steve Harry who complemented him for the information he gave
through his speech and TM Steve advised TM Aday to relate the title and the
content of his speech more strongly.

The third prepared speaker
was TM Syariful Alamsyah Lubis with
speech entitled “Healthy Food Tuna Sashimi” (BM #7). With his reputation in the
Marine World, we knew that he definitely nailed his presentation (we even got
to see his photo in 1991 when TM Lubis caught his tunas!). TM Lubis was evaluated
by ACG/CL Robert Purnomobagyo who
said that his research about the topic of his speech did not only enrich the
audience knowledge about healthy food but also successfully made we want to eat
tuna sashimi at that very second! ACG/CL Robert offered TM Lubis suggestion to
make the presentation in bullet points and to improve the transition between
slides.
The last prepared speaker was
TM Benazir with her speech entitled “Toastmama” (BM #8). Using her childhood photos, she
told the audience about her mother who apparently tried to teach her to speak
up, to take a lead, and to be proud of herself when she was a little girl. TM
Benazir found Toastmaster close to her heart as it reminds her of the
invaluable lessons she learned from her mother, her Toastmama. Her evaluator, DTM Harlina Indra felt that
her speech was entertaining and that she made us the visual aid effectively.
DTM Harlina also advised TM Benazir to employ triads in order to add more
dramatic effect into her conclusion.
Furthermore, the Table Topics Session was led by the Table Topic Master, TM George Arif who brought forward some
touching photos in the spirit of giving. The impromptu speakers who took the
challenge were CC Thomas Alfiandes, Guest Lulus Yunindiah, Guest Bintang, Guest
Koes, and Guest Charlie.

At the end of
the whole 3 sessions i.e. prepared speech, table topic, and evaluation session,
the Ballot Counter, TM Dina, announced TM
Benazir as the Best Prepared Speaker,
ACG/CL Robert as the Best Evaluator, and jointly, CC Thomas and Guest Lulus as the Best Table
Topic Speaker.

Keeping the
atmosphere up until the very end, ToM gave each of the audience a cup of jelly
and asked everyone to stand up and give the jelly to other people by telling
compliment to the receiver.
The meeting left
the audience with such content faces as the spirit of giving has made them
eager to give more to other people!
