Prepared Speech Session
1. Basic Manual # 1: The Ice breaker
Speaker: TM Kevin Henanta
Speech Title: "The courage towards a big
leadership?”
TM Kevin opened his speech by saying that
everyone should have enough courage to go through the struggles they will face
to be a leader. He had his fears upon entering his first speech competition,
but was consoled by his father’s message that it’s not simply about winning but
about improving his quality of self through the tearing down fears and having
courage. Courage is a state of mind or action to face a danger or obstruction
to reach success. Courage happens in a small scope and a big scope. Small scope
of courage like asking some questions or expressing opinions can create big
impact for ourselves. Big scope of courage like participating in a tough
competition pushes us to better our quality of selves. TM Kevin concluded that
good quality of self can help us achieve success, so be brave and don’t let
fear tear you down.

2. Basic Manual # 5: Your Body Speaks
Speaker: TM Magdalena Sihotang
Speech Title: "The importance of being
focused”
TM Lena told a story of her journey to the mall
to buy a gift for her brother. She was distracted by the other shops and when
she found a gift for her brother, she already ran out of money and time, and
ended up not being able to buy the gift. She regretted spending her money shopping
on the other things that she didn’t need. She higlighted that being not focused
made her lose resource, money, time and energy, and ended up not achieving her
goal. She advised the audience to train to be a focused person, through making
a priority list and keeping out distraction. She implemented it by working
without playing with her phone or the internet and it drastically improved her
productivity. TM Lena concluded saying controlling yourself is not easy but
keeping focus is important since staying focused on important things would help
you capture the moment and your goals perfectly.

3. Basic Manual # 9: Persuade with Power
Speaker: TM Maria Yulianti Sinaga
Speech Title: "Driving to destination”
TM Maria was learning driving with her husband.
She struggled and over time she became afraid to drive and started making
excuses and justifications to not drive, causing her to not have any progress.
She equates her journey learning driving to giving speeches. It’s been a long
time since her last speech and she feels like she’s forgotten how to deliver a
speech and that became a barrier from once again stepping on the stage. She
highlighted that Toastmasters is a good place for learning as it provides friendly
environment, help, and constructive feedback. By focusing and practicing, and
not making excuses from delivering speeches and doing projects, she reminded
the audience to pursue our goals of entering Toastmasters. TM Maria concluded
with saying intention is not enough, action is what takes us to our
destination.

Edu Speech Session
Speaker: Harlina Indra, DTM
Speech Title: “Mentoring”
Mentors give knowledge and insight, acts as
confidant and helps their mentee’s success in Toastmaster. Many people think
they’re not experienced enough to be mentors, but the mentor’s responsibility
is only to ease the transition of new members, to introduce them to the customs
and standards, encourages them to participate more and improve their skills and
to inspires confidence. For the mentors, they can benefit from learning from
their mentees, re learning the basic manuals, reamining productive, performs an
altruistic act, be encouraged by watching their mentees grow and gain
recognition from their mentees. Mentors simply need to be available,
supportive, patient and sensitive in dealing with different mentees and their
differing skills and personality. As a mentor, you should sit with new member,
introduce them to JTC, who to contact, and help with their Ice Breaker speech,
introduce other resources to help their learning, explain responsibilties and
projects, and give them positive feedback. Mentors should also invite the
mentee to other events, share the benefits they’re experienced, and encourage
the mentee to take on more responsibility and roles. TM Harlina concluded
saying mentors and mentees can create a friendship for life and encourages the
audience to be a mentor and have fun with mentorship.
