JTC Minutes of Meeting - 13 November 2006
Attendees: 16 consisting of 11 JTC members, 5 guests including 2 visiting Toastmasters (Kebayoran & Mets)
Theme of the meeting: TURN PEOPLE ON
Word of the Day: Voice
The meeting was opened by Vice President of Membership CC Alistair, who was acting as President for the evening. Alistair asked our guests to introduce themselves and briefly comment on how they knew about Toastmasters. Then, Alistair passed the control over to the TOM – DTM Harlina .
After a few different ways of greeting the audience with “Good Evening Everybody” (6 times actually…) we all found out that Harlina ’s theme of the meeting emphasized the use of vocal variety to ‘turn people on’. A speech, sentence or phrase can sound more pleasant or expressive if we add volume, pitch and pauses.
Harlina, whose dream car is a Volvo, led us deeper into the meeting by introducing the General Evaluator – TM Edwin. As GE, Edwin evaluated everything and anything that went on during the meeting. Of course he couldn’t do this all on his own, so he asked his evaluation team to help him out. His evaluation team included a Grammarian – TM Tassya, a Timer – TM Antari, an Ah/WOD Counter – TM Darmawan and a Ballot Counter – CC Vina.
Moving on to the first session of the meeting, TOM Harlina introduced the Table Topics Master – TM Darmawan. He asked people in the audience to pick out an emotion he had written on pieces of paper. These emotions were then elaborated by the speakers:
· TM Aulia picked out the emotion ‘love’ and showed us how he would propose to the girl of his dreams.
· TM Astuty had to talk about ‘sadness’ where she expressed her thoughts during a farewell party for one of her closest friends.
· TM Naufal became ‘disappointed’ because he wasn’t voted as JTC’s President, even though he promised the club that they’d all go to Bali and each would receive a free mobile phone.
· Guest Johnson showed his ‘fear’ when his friends took him to Bali to try out bungy jumping.
· Immediate Past President Becca said that she always chooses to be happy every time she wakes up in the morning as it will make her day and keep her feeling young.
After the Table Topics session, the meeting continued to the Prepared Speech session where we heard the speeches from the following:
1. TM Naufal – BM#7 (Research your topic) Title: “Sleeping on the Job”
Naufal did his research and told us the benefits of power napping and how it can improve our work during the day.
2. TM Eva – BM#7 (Research your topic) Title: “Are you ready for 3G?”
Eva informed the new technology in mobile phones, 3G or 3 Generation and explained the new features involved.
3. TM Aulia – BM#4 (How to say it) Title: “Follow your nose”
Aulia shared with us the power of smell and told us that we shouldn’t underestimate this unique sense.
Following the Prepared Speech session our VP Membership, CC Alistair, used the time to present an educational session regarding the International Speech Contest. JTC will be conducting the club level contest on 29th January 2007 and Alistair encouraged everyone to participate in the event as either a contestant or organizing committee.
TM Edwin took over again to lead the Evaluation session. The individual evaluators did a tremendous job:
- CC Alistair evaluated TM Naufal
- CC Vina (Kebayoran Club) evaluated TM Eva
- CC Tom (Mets Club) evaluated TM Aulia
The champion of Division I Evaluation Contest 2006, CC Tom, took this opportunity to drill his evaluation skills for the District Contest in Kuala Lumpur next week. Some JTC members pitched in to give Tom advice and feedback on his evaluation. Good luck, Tom!
Edwin’s evaluation team gave their respective reports and after his own report, Edwin returned the control to Harlina . The meeting adjourned after the announcement of the favourites in the Hall of Fame:
Table Topic Speaker – TM Naufal
Prepared Speaker – TM Aulia
Evaluator – CC Tom

- DTM Harlina evaluated TM Darmawan (Table Topics Master) and CC Alistair (Evaluator)
