Halloween Meeting, 27 October 2008

Last Monday, we have a very scary meeting … Vampires and spirits gathered from all around Jakarta. We even had Mak Lampir visiting us …

Scary? Hmm … Well, the theme was “All Hallows’ Eve”, chosen because it’s going to be Halloween this Friday. So, members were invited to come and dress up in black or red. Our Toastmaster of the Meeting, or our primary storyteller, ACB/ALB Johan, prepared nightmarish amusement with all ghost stories, drinks, and snacks. He began the meeting with relating the story of the origin of Halloween. He then said that he might, anytime he liked, called one of us to tell a 3-5 minute spooky story.

Shortly after that, our General Evaluator, ACB Jhonson, introduced his ghostly team : ACB/CL Astuty as our Grammarian, TM Win as Timer, TM Ami as Ballot Counter, and ACS/ALB Wivina as “Ah” & Word of the Day Counter. The Word of the Day was “Spooky”.

Table Topic Session was lead by a mysterious woman, who seemed to be thirsty for souls … ACB/CL Imung asked the attendants to tell stories that can make goose bump. Five people came up, ATM Robert, TM Ivan, TM Yeni, and ACB/CL Astuty. By popular demand, our TTM also delivered her own story.

We only had one prepared speaker, it was TM Andi, delivered his BM#1. He told us about why he loves Jakarta. He was evaluated by CC Vanessa.

Between sessions, our TOM told scary stories. But not only that, he also charged us to come up and tell our own horror stories. Six people showed up and related their stories: CC Alistair with his story of a nightmare when he was small, ACS/ALB Wivina with her recollection of a scary movie, TM Handy with a spooky experience in a hotel in Surabaya, Guest Bayu, with another eerie experience in a hotel in Surabaya, TM Dyah with a story of a ghost that offered Bakso, and ATMB/CL Etta with her experience in another hotel in Surabaya.

The evaluation session came after that. After the evaluation session, our TOM opened a short discussion to help our CC Vanessa collecting inputs and suggestions. She’s going to compete in the Evaluation Contest in District level this November.

By the way, we had 21 people coming, including 4 guests. And, there were two new members were inducted: TM Handy and TM Laura. We also celebrated birthdays, for October people and September people. ATM Robert, TM Handy, TM Andi, CC Vanessa, and ATMB/CL Etta blew birthday candles together and celebrate their birthdays.

The hall of fame is as follows: the best table topic speaker was ACB/CL Imung; the best prepared speaker was TM Andi, the best evaluator was CC Vanessa, the best ghost story teller was ATMB/CL Etta, the best costume award went to CC Vanessa, and the president’s award went to ACB/CL Imung. Congratulation for all!

The meeting ended with the TOM’s story of how Indonesia has the highest number of ghostly encounter in South East Asia. So, we live in a spooky country, after all. Aside from some spooky appearance of humankind, all of us had satisfied our thirst and hunger, and flew one by one to our respective nest. We would like to gather again soon …
