Minutes of Meeting, Oct 20, 2008

Hi, everyone!

As you have noticed in our mailing list, our Area Governor, ACB/ALB Johan has volunteered to be the Toastmaster of the Meeting (TOM) for two meetings, starting last Monday. So, last Monday, he was in charge of our meeting. The theme was “For Every Action there is an Equal and Opposite Reaction”. It was a quotation from Isaac Newton. He shortly explained that it was one of the most basic laws of physics.

But before describing our last meeting, I want to tell you about the induction. We inducted three new members: TM Wim, TM Claudia, and TM Andi. All of them have attended our meetings a few times before and have actively involved in the meetings. The induction was witnessed by many people, as there were 28 people came, including 7 guests. And it included a family, too, because CC Jiway brought his wife and two children to listen to his speech.

Our General Evaluator was DTM Harlina. She was helped by her team which consisted of Grammarian (TM Ivan), Timer (TM Andi), Ballot Counter (TM Matthew), and Ah & WoD Counter (ACS/ALB Wivina). The word of the day was “reciprocate”.

After a few weeks of reversal, finally we have our table topics session conducted before the prepared speech session. Our Table Topics Master was ATM/CL Robert. His topic was about food. First he showed a slide which told us about the World Food Day. And after that, he presented slides showing food, mostly traditional food. Speakers were supposed to make speech based on the slides he showed. There were seven speakers came up: ATMB Sitepu, DTM Harlina, ACS Wivina, ACB Jhonson, CC Thomas, CC Alistair, and Guest Stefan.

We had two prepared speakers. The first was TM Wim, with his BM#1. He related the story of his childhood. He was evaluated by CC Alistair. The second speaker was CC Jiway who delivered AM#1 – Interpretive Reading. He read a book titled “Walter the Farting Dog”. He was evaluated by ACB/CL Jhonson.

After that we have an unusual session. Our TOM invented a new session where everyone who hasn’t spoken on stage has to speak up for around 30 seconds. He threw a general question to all speakers, which related to the reason why they came to Toastmasters. All attendants who had not spoken were forced to speak up.

Now, it is time for the hall of fame. For the table topics sessions, the title of best speaker was split between CC Alistair and ACB Jhonson. Since all prepared speakers were disqualified due to time management, the TOM made us choose the best speaker for the 30-second-speech session. The result of the balloting indicated TM Lim as the best speaker. The best evaluator was CC Alistair. The President’s Award went to ACB/ALB Johan.

Before the meeting was closed, the TOM reminded again that the theme for the next meeting will be related to Halloween, so members are expected to wear black costumes.

Well, that’s all for now. See you next week!
