Minutes of Meeting; 24 Nov 2008

Hello again everybody!

After being absent for a couple of weeks, I’m back again to give an account on our latest meeting.

Last Monday, 24th of November, was a special day because it was the anniversary of Apollo 12’s landing back to earth after spending more than 10 days in space. Our Toastmasters of the Meeting believes that it is a special day which commemorates one of humankind’s accomplishments. Therefore, the theme for the meeting was “Celebrating of Accomplishments”. Our TOM was none other than our creative and lovely toastmaster, TM Siska.

The General Evaluator was TM Dyah, and she was helped by a group of excellent people, they are: TM Prima as our Grammarian, TM Yuli as our Timer, TM Laura as our Ballot Counter, and ACB/CL Stephen as our “Ah” and Word of the Day Counter. The Word of the Day was “Persist”.

Our Table Topics Master was ACS/ALB Wivina. In line with the theme, she asked the audience to relate stories or experiences regarding accomplishment. Seven people showed up and delivered a speech. TM Yuli talked about health, weight, and sport; ATM Robert explained about how to be a good employee; CC Alistair told us about his experience as a father; TM Krisna, a visiting Toastmaster, reminded us that we shouldn’t take our family’s love for granted, ACB/CL Stephen presented a speech about believing in something; TM Dyah talked about luck; and TM Prima told us that things may not be as what they appear to be.

We have three prepared speakers and one educational session. TM Men Jung delivered his BM#1, and explained about his persistence to achieve. He was evaluated by ACB/ALB Johan. TM Matthew delivered BM#8 and related the history men’s fashion. His evaluator was ATM Robert. ACB Jhonson delivered AM#4 and presented an excerpt from a book titled “Beauty for Sale”. He was evaluated by CC Alistair. DTM Harlina delivered an educational session titled “Begin with the End in Mind”, and explained how Toastmasters has helped her accomplish many things.

Our creative and resourceful TOM, TM Siska, brought a game session after the general evaluation session. She made us stand in a big circle and then she asked us to create an origami. But that is not just it. We were to write compliments to the person next to us in each origami. (Well, talking about accomplishment and encouragement.)

There were 15 people came, including one visiting Toastmaster. All of us celebrate accomplishments of our club, of members of our clubs, and of our friends. Hall of fame is also a part of the celebration. The best table topic speaker was CC Alistair. The best prepared speaker was TM Men Jung. All three evaluators had exactly the same number of votes, so all three shared the best evaluator’s trophy. The president’s award went to TM Dyah.

Well, that is all for now. See you again in our next meeting!
