Minutes of Meeting, 2 February 2009

Hi again, everyone!

Our last meeting was the first JTC’s meeting in the year of earth ox. It was the first meeting after holiday, and yet we could keep the number of attendance. There were 21 people coming, including 5 guests.

The theme was “Strive for Excellence”. Our Toastmaster of the Meeting was CTM/CL Imung. Having opened the meeting, she explained the theme of the meeting, about what and how to excel. The General Evaluator was CC Thomas. His team consisted of ACB Jhonson as Grammarian, Guest Laurhein as Timer, Guest Quarina as Ballot Counter, and TM Ivan as Ah/Word of the Day Counter. The Word of the Day was “doyen”, a word of French origin, which means “the senior member (due to age, experience, or profession) of a group”.

The next session was Jokers Wild, where TM Matthew presented a joke about accountants. After that, came the Table Topics Master, ATMB/CL Etta. She set the setting as if we were in a networking event. She asked volunteers to stand up and introduce themselves. In the introduction, the speaker had to tell about something particular that s/he wanted other people to remember. Five people stood up: Guest Fathia who likes dancing, CC Thomas who wants to target the ladies, funny TM Amy, ATM Robert who likes to tell jokes, and TM Ronny who plays badminton and RPG. Our Table Topics Master also gave a speech and explained why she likes Toastmasters.

In the “In My Opinion”, Guest Fathia explained why daydreaming is important: to have time for ourselves.

We had two prepared speeches. The first speaker was TM Matthew, delivering his BM#10 titled “I’d Like to Propose a Toast”. He was evaluated by ATM Robert. The second speaker was CC Vanessa, delivering her AM#1 Storytelling, titled “The Sinful Story behind the Scrumptious Sweets”. She was evaluated by ACS/ALB Vina.

We had an additional session, where ACB/ALB Johan promoted the upcoming contests. He explained the rules of International Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest.

For the hall of fame: The best Table Topics Speaker was TM Amy, the best Speaker was CC Vanessa, and the best Evaluator was ACS/ALB Vina. Since TM Matthew has finished his Basic Manual, from now on he is going to be CC Matthew. Congratulations!

Well, that’s all for now. Hope to see you next week!

Best regards,
Dyah Yasmina
Club Secretary
