Minutes of Meeting - 5 January 2009

Happy New Year, everyone!

January 5, 2009, and it was the first JTC’s meeting in 2009. The theme was “Make a Commitment – New Year, New You”. In line with the theme, in this meeting, everybody was invited to reflect on the previous year and to make a commitment for this year. The Toastmaster of the Meeting was CC Vanessa. In the beginning of the meeting, she explained how people have resolutions in the beginning of the year, but those resolutions need commitment. And thus the theme was about commitment. She also gave small trumpets, so we could blow them instead of clapping. These small trumpets had high impact on the meeting: they created more energy and cheerfulness.

The General Evaluator was CC Alistair. He was helped by his team which consisted of : TM Siska as Grammarian, TM Yuli as Timer, TM Ivan as Ballot Counter, and ACB/CL Stephen as “Ah” & Word of the Day Counter. The Word of the Day was “resolve”.

The Table Topics Session was led by ATM/CL Robert. He showed slides which had quotes on it. Speakers were asked to deliver a speech based on the quotes. The quotes were about commitment or effort. There were five people showed up in this session: ACB/ALB Johan, CC Astuty, ACS/ALB Wivina, CC Thomas, and CC Dyah.

We had two prepared speakers. TM Sunardi delivered his BM#2 and talked about disaster management. He was evaluated by CC Dyah. DTM Harlina re-delivered BM#9, and persuaded us to find ways to follow our heart and do things that we really love to do. She was evaluated by ATMB/CL Etta.

After the prepared speeches, we had a Reflection Session, led by TM Matthew. It was like the Table Topic Session, but the purpose was to look back on what has been done in 2008 and what can be done in 2009. First, he explained about his journey in Toastmasters, and after that he asked people to come and talked about theirs. Before each speech, he gave a quote concerning reflection. Five people gave a speech: TM Wim, ACB/CL Stephen, CC Vanessa, CC Alistair, and Guest Dendy.

There were 21 people came, including 3 guests. As for the hall of fame, the best Table Topics Speaker was ACB/ALB Johan, the best Prepared Speaker was DTM Harlina, the best Reflection Speaker was CC Vanessa, and the best Evaluator was ATMB/CL Etta.

It was an enjoyable meeting, thanks to our resourceful TOM and everyone who was involved in the meeting. The next meeting will be conducted next Monday, and we hope that you will participate there. See you next week!
