"APPRECIATION NIGHT" - 24 September 2012

When last week, our Club President, ACB/CL Imung Hikmah proposed herself to be the ToM (Toastmasters of the Meeting) for the next meeting, we got the feeling that something great was coming up. Yes, no disappointment! We all were astonished last Monday as she led us to the “APPRECIATION NIGHT”. Last night meeting was held to “recognise” (word of the day) those who have dedicated their knowledge, energy, and time to JTC.

Aiming to appreciate the meeting to its best, ACG Henrietta A. Kristanto served as the General Evaluator with the assistance from the Grammarian (ACB/CL Nur Astuty Wahidin), the Ballot Counter (TM Kevin Meng), the Timer (TM Dyah), and the “Ah”/WoD Counter (DTM Johan Setiawan).

ToM started off the meeting by giving out a heart-touching activity to the audience. Each of the audience was given a blank ribbon badge. The audience were asked to think of someone first appeared in their mind and to write down words of appreciation to that particular person on that blank badge. Then, the audience went around the room to give out their badges to each other.

Furthermore, in sync with the meeting theme last night, the prepared speaker, TM Bena invited everyone in the room to appreciate the diversity in humankind through her speech entitled “One Colour or Many Colours” (Basic Manual #7). She was evaluated by ACB/ALB Ignasius Ronny who delivered his comments and suggestions without using any notes! ACB/ALB Ronny commented that TM Bena incorporated good vocal variety and that she had a clear speech organisation (opening, body, and closing). He further advised TM Bena to be more relaxed as he felt her body movement was a little bit stressed. Moreover, he suggested TM Bena to not only read out the data she provided on the slides, but also to make use of the diversity in the room that night to reinforce her idea.

The next session was the Table Topics Session. CC/CL Fathia Saripuspita held the session smoothly and managed to get 5 people “hypnotised” that they were willing to come in front delivering their impromptu speech!
CC Jackson Chu: spoke upon the question, “What would you like to say to someone you met once in a trip and you never got the chance to meet him/her again?”
Guest Fransisco: spoke upon the question, “What would you like to say about your wife?”
Guest Chantika: spoke upon the question, “Behind a great man there is a great woman. Behind a great woman there is an ex-boyfriend who regrets breaking up with her. What would you like thank to your ex-boyfriend?” (the speech got really personal until Guest Cantika got into a sudden Q&A session from a male guest, “why did you break up with him?”. (We were actually waiting for the next possible question, “do you have any boyfriend now?” Ahem!))
Guest VJ: spoke upon the question, “What would you like to thank to your parents?”
Guest Adit: spoke upon the question, “What would you like to thank to your pet?”
The ballots resulted at CC Jackson Chu being the Best Table Topic Speaker.

Since last night meeting was a special one, ToM took the Hall of Fame to a whole new level. Beside the usual hall of fame, she invited the below members to receive the one-of-the-kind awards:
CC Bahtiar Manurung: “Not Funny to Funny” award
He was a shy guy at the first time he joined JTC (totally unbelievable!). Then, as he picked up his confidence, he joined humorous contests. Recently, on 9 September 2012, he made JTC proud as he performed his stand up comedy at @America Pacific Place.
CC/CL Kardinal: “Me, Myself, and I” award
He has always been the one who is able to do everything professionally. He does not tell people to do things. He does things as he believes actions speak louder! Other toastmasters clubs might have a club president but we, JTC, have a club president and Kardinal!
CC Valeriya Alimzhanova: “Peek a Boo” award
She is clearly a travelling toastmaster. Kazakhstan, Seoul, you name it. However, her heart is always at Jakarta Toastmasters Club!
CC Neeraj Khiani: “Fast & Furious” award
He had not even received his “Competent Communicator”/”CC” title when he made his way to District 87 Speech and Table Topics Contest on 20 May 2012 in Kota Kinabalu. He brought home the trophy as the 2nd Runner up for Table Topics Contest. Not long after that, he accomplished his basic manual and got his “CC” title for less than 6 months.
CC/CL Susanna Jahja: “Club Hopper” award
She is a darling who is always ready to help her fellow toastmasters. She hops here and there to grant her support and contribution.
DTM Johan Setiawan & ACG Henrietta A. Kristanto: “JTC Die Hard” award
Both of them absolutely deserve for this award for their long-time dedication and commitment to the club and Toastmasters in Indonesia. They continue to inspire their juniors and are always on hand to support their fellow toastmasters.

Since we appreciate our guests as much as our members, Madam ToM did not forget to invite a guest to come forward to receive “Die without You” award. Guest Adit represented all honoured guests who have ever visited JTC.

29 glowing faces (14 of them were guests) left the venue with an indescribable joy!
