Minutes of JTC Meeting, 21 July 2008
Hello everyone!
Did you come to our last meeting, on July 21? If you didn’t, you really missed a lot. TM Siska was our Toastmaster of the Meeting, and she came up with a nationalist theme of “Enjoying Indonesia”. Our dress code was batik (or something Indonesian), and a lot of people really showed up wearing batik. Before the meeting began, TM Siska showed us photographs she took when she traveled to many places in Indonesia. Even from the first time we entered the meeting room, we were entertained by the beauty of our country.
Not only were we entertained, we were also challenged by trivia. At the beginning and the end of the meeting, our TOM asked about several facts about Indonesia. She even explained about an octopus that has mimicry ability. I never learned of that creature before!
The previous meeting also witnessed inductions of four new members. They are TM Eko, TM Lukman, TM Zilva, and TM Anton. Congratulations! We are waiting for their Ice Breaking speech. As for the attendance, we had 32 people attending the meeting, including 5 guests.
Our GE was TM Ivan, who carried his part very well. He was helped by his excellent team, which consists of TM Matthew as Grammarian, TM Vanessa as Timer, ATMB/CL Etta as Ballot Counter, and TM Yuli as Ah and WOD Counter. The Word of The Day was “permeate”. TM Matthew explained the meaning of the word by relating it to his permeating experience in Bogor. As a reminder of the WoD, he placed a printed sign in front of the podium.
Our Table Topic Master was TM Taufan. His questions for the session were all linked to each other. It was as if we were playing an interactive RPG, but advancing to the next step using speeches, not weapons. The storyline involved a minister (which was played by the speaker) who was visited by an important donor. All speeches were about good things that you can find to promote Indonesia. Four speakers came up, and they were: TM Prima, TM Katarina, TM Johan, and TM Stephen.
We had three prepared speeches. TM Dyah explained about small things people tend to forget when they are in office. She was evaluated by DTM Nono Sarwono. ACB Jhonson related his experience when he was on a journey to Mount Kinabalu. He was evaluated by DTM Harlina. CC/CL Astuty acted a monodrama about regret, which was an extract from a work of Chekov. Her evaluator was CTM/CL Imung. We also had an educational session by ACB/CL Stephen. He explained about evaluation in Toastmaster: the what, why, and how.
At the end of the meeting, the Ballot Counter announced the awardees. The best Table Topic Speaker was ACB/CL Stephen. The best Prepared Speaker was CC/CL Astuty. The best Evaluator was DTM Nono Sarwono. After the stage was returned to the President, it was the announcement of the President’s Award, and it went to our TOM, TM Siska.
It was an entertaining night, as always. If you were not there, you really missed a lot. So, don’t forget to come to our next weekly meeting! See you there!
