Minutes of JTC Meeting, 28 July 2008
Hello again, everyone!
On Monday, we had an enjoyable meeting, thanks to our energetic Toastmaster of the Meeting, ATMB Etta. She had this theme: "Be A Light". And she was herself the light of the meeting, with her radiating yellow blouse. During the whole meeting, our TOM invited everybody be like a candle, giving light to another. It was about becoming someone else's light. It was not arbitrary that the Word of the Day was "Radiate" and/or "Radiant".
The meeting was opened by CTM/CL Imung, our VPE, representing the absent President. She invited three guests (one of them was a past member of JTC) to introduce themselves. Overall, we had 22 attendants, including 3 guests and 1 visiting Toastmaster. After all guests spoke, our TOM took the stage and began rolling the "core" meeting. Our General Evaluator was the King of Laugh himself, ATM Robert. As always, he included one or two jokes every time he was on stage. He was helped by TM Dyah as Timer, ACB/CL Stephen as Ballot Counter, and TM Katarina as "Ah" and WOD Counter. As for the grammarian, all attendants were invited to be the grammarian and gave his or her evaluation at the end of the meeting. The table topic session was led by TM Matthew. He was inspired by the theme and wanted to know about what other members think about being a light. As a rule, he would point to one person and ask him or her to speak, and then mentioned his question. Five speakers presented their views. They were: ACS Wivina, Guest Donna, Guest Evron, TM Siska, and Guest Wim. It was a very entertaining table topic session that you do not want to miss. ACS Wivina sang during her speech and TM Matthew learned how to properly pronounce the name "Bambang".We had five prepared speeches for the night. The number really wowed everyone, and it was something that should be attained in our next meetings. I really invite all members who have not presented their speech for quite a while, to stand up and deliver a speech. This is what we joined for when we first entered Toastmasters, isn't it?
The first speaker was TM Sisca, delivering her BM#5. She related her experience of frustrating teachers in elementary school and also gave tips of how to become a good audience. She was evaluated by CC Eva. Next, came Ivan who sang the beauty of the recluse. (I mean it, he sang in his speech.) He talked about love in a broader sense. His evaluator was ACB Harry. The third was ACB Jhonson, redid his AM#2, and told us the story of his experience of conquering Mount Kinabalu. He talked about his preparation, his journey, and the problems he faced there. The evaluator was DTM Harlina. After that, ACB Hani Honggo from the Motivators club persuaded us to prepare for our retirement years. He explained how saving is good for you future. He was evaluated by ACB Johan. The last, but not the least, was ACS Wivina. She told a story about a king, who refused to listen to criticism, and his servant. She concluded that we all have to accept criticism. Her evaluator was CC/CL Imung.
That night, ACS Wivina showed her power by dominating the hall of fame. She was both the best table topic speaker and best prepared speaker. ACB Johan was the best evaluator, and ATMB Henrietta got the Presidential Award.
Each Toastmasters meeting is a unique experience and those amusing happenings may never happen again. So, people, care to come to our next meeting. Who knows what will happen next?
Yours truly,
The Secretary
